Aerogel Blanket is a flexible, blanket-like composite material made from aerogel, a highly porous and lightweight substance. Aerogel is typically composed of silica, carbon, or other metal oxides and is known for its extremely low density and very low thermal conductivity. The aerogel mat takes advantage of the unique properties of aerogel while incorporating a fibrous structure, making it more adaptable and easier to handle in various applications.
Thermal Insulation Performance
Low Thermal Conductivity: Aerogel blankets exhibit extremely low thermal conductivity, typically ranging from 0.013 to 0.017 W/m·K. This makes them some of the best thermal insulators available.
Lightweight
Their low density minimizes added weight in systems where weight is a critical factor, such as in aerospace, automotive, and marine industries.
Flexibility
Aerogel blankets are designed to be flexible and conform to various shapes and surfaces. This makes them ideal for insulating irregular or complex geometries, such as pipes, valves, and curved surfaces.
Fire Resistance
Aerogel blankets are often non-combustible and exhibit excellent fire resistance. Many are rated Class A under fire safety standards (e.g., ASTM E84 or EN 13501-1).
Hydrophobicity
Aerogel blankets are highly hydrophobic (water-repellent), which prevents moisture absorption and minimizes the risk of corrosion under insulation (CUI) in industrial applications.
